Edinburgh

The City of Edinburgh is the capital of Scotland, and the second largest city after Glasgow. It is the UK's second biggest tourist destination after London.

Originally a fortified site known as Din Eydin (hence Gaelic 'Dùn Èideann'). Edinburgh was founded when Edwin of Northumberland captured it and made it his capital, giving its name which means "Eiden's Burgh" (burgh = fort), though "Eiden" is of ancient origin. After the Viking invasion, it was recaptured by the Scots and Picts, but continued to be fought over by the English. In the 15th century, when it settled as part of Scotland, the Scottish throne moved to Edinburgh which became the capital.

Edinburgh has a famous university and the annual Edinburgh Festival, and remains a centre of education and culture. The city itself has a population of 450,000 and the wider area has over 1.2 million.

quiet for many but there can be noise problems for some on the ground floor. Not a social place as common areas are lacking. Good rooms and kept clean. Near the park.
